A Guide // East Bay Vegan Food

March 14, 2018

Oakland and the surrounding neighborhoods here in the East Bay Area have been booming with vegetarian and vegan friendly options when it comes to dining out. It’s amazing to know which spots are accommodating in this way, for the next time you’re craving a plant-based meal or know a friend who is vegan but still wants to be able to go out with the group!

Farley's East

Farley’s East cafe is a delightful environment to begin your day or spend some time getting work done. They offer a wide variety of options for vegetarians and vegans such as the in-house made avocado toast, zucchini bread, vegan sandwich with hummus and veggies, salad and soups du jour and plant-based milks like Oatly and almond milk for your coffee needs. Plus, they carry Pepple’s local vegan donuts, Urban Remedy products and Health Ade kombucha teas! We love that they have separated work and play by creating a downstairs area used solely for eating and conversation, while upstairs is they welcome you to connect to the free wifi and get work done on your laptop.

Mr. Dewie's

Mr. Dewie’s cashew creamery is a new and special spot for ice cream here in the East Bay! This ice cream is made exclusively from cashews, making it perfect for vegans or for those who deal with dairy intolerances. When you’re looking for a sweet, satisfying and unique treat you can find Mr. Dewie’s shipping container store at the Public Market in Emeryville, or at the restaurant Paulista in Oakland. Our favorite flavors include the turmeric spice ice cream which very closely resembles the ever-trendy golden mylk, and we also love the banana-nut and OG roasted cashew ice creams. So you can try this deliciousness yourself, we’ve partnered with Mr. Dewie’s to give our readers $1 off their purchase. Just mention this blogpost to get a $1 off!

Analog

Analog brings Oakland vegan sandwich options and funky VHS films. This spot shows off Oakland’s cool vibe by serving beers and sandwiches in a “hole in the wall” type space. If you haven’t tried their take on a vegan roast beef sandwich or banh mi, definitely go check this place out. Using seitan and other plant-based ingredients these sandwiches are so savory and packed with flavor. Our favorite items on the menu are the Rachel and the Hail Seitan! Reminiscent of Easter brunch in Fort Worth, Texas because the flavors are on point with the real thing, minus all the guilt!

Urban Remedy

Our favorite spot for smoothies and salads, all completely organic and raw come from Urban Remedy! Oakland now has a shipping container store but the UR products are also sold at Whole Foods and at the UR store in Berkeley. These delicious ready to go meals and snacks are so healthy and nutrient-dense options for on the go or at home. Some of our favorite items to choose from are the chocolate banana smoothie, veggie burger wrapped in a collard leaf, carrot soup, vegan Caesar salad and the raw tiramisu dessert. Next time you’re thinking of grabbing something on the go, try one (or two) of Urban Remedy’s many options and see how amazing you feel after eating so clean! These meals and snacks are sure to give you the nourishment and fuel you need for your busy day.

We’re so happy that the East Bay has such a wide variety of foods to choose from, including vegan foods! A lot of these businesses are small businesses run by amazing individuals in our community, and it feels great to be able to support local. Widen your horizons by visiting any of these eateries, and we’d love to hear what you thought if you tried one of our favorite menu items. Comment below or connect with us on social media!
